Successful Time Management

Creating the day is our first step to managing time.

Have you ever wondered: Where did the Day Go? Where did the week go? Where did the years go? I can't believe it's 2010, 2011?

We may think that making change requires more time. It only requires structure in the time that already exists. How we keep time is not going to change. How we choose use this time will. We cannot create more time. Our day has 24 hours, the week has seven days and this year has 365 days. So will next year. How will we make today last longer so we can accomplish more?

Are we in the moment right now? What does that mean? As we read through this passage have we started to drift away and allow our mind to wander to all that we have to do later, tomorrow? Shut off the mind clutter and get linear with laser beam focus. That is how you slow it all down so the rest of the world, that seems to be spinning so fast can fly right by. When that happens we are focused. Instead of having things that we need to do, we will have things that we are going to accomplish. We will call that our accomplishment list, not the to do list that we have all made and scribbled on backs of receipts, loose pages and also in our planners, calendars and PDA's.

How is our game of life clock running? Can we call a time out or take our ball and go home? Of course not, however here is what we can do. We can slow it all down. Hit the brakes and let it all fly right by. Yesterday is gone. The day that is upon is right now is not over. Tomorrow is in the future. It may make sense to work on today and tomorrow. What about yesterday? Yesterday's gone.

All we can do about yesterday is; do it better. The next time a similar set of circumstances arises, all we can do is; do it better. Let's look at some practical examples. Do you over schedule and underperform? Do you run late often? Do you forget simple tasks? Are you sick and tired of being sick and tired? Many of exist at this place of perpetual incompleteness. We want for so much more and we "know" what we need to do, yet we stay stuck. It is time to move beyond stuck and get better.

Albert Einstein defined insanity as "Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." Imagine the Chimpanzee continually whacking the square peg into the round hole and not driving it through. Harder and harder he swings the hammer, he may even switch the grip on the hammer or change hammers altogether, never realizing the hammer is not the problem. The problem is not the hammer.

Keep in mind if the results are the desired results this is great, yet if they are not the results we want, we need to change the approach and very quickly at that.
