Each person is assessed and treated dependent upon their individual health histories and personal needs. The number of new cases of type 2 diabetes among middle-aged Americans has doubled over the past 30 years, researchers report.

"There has been tremendous concern, but probably not enough concern, about the emerging epidemic of diabetes," said Dr. Robert Rizza, a professor of medicine at the Mayo Clinic and president of the American Diabetes Association. "It doesn't take long to be doubling before the numbers are simply too great to be even conceived of."

Healthy Detoxification

Our modern day lifestyle and environment make a periodic "cleanse" an important part of any wellness program. The GI tract is the site of toxin elimination as well as toxin build up. Cola consumption linked to weaker bones in women

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) -- Women who want to keep their bones strong may want to keep their cola consumption to a minimum, a new study suggests. In a study of more than 2,500 adults, Dr. Katherine L. Tucker of Tufts University in Boston and colleagues found that women who consumed cola daily had lower bone mineral density, or BMD, in their hips than those who drank less than one serving of cola a month.

Bad Eating Habits Start Near Age 2

In the October 27, 2003 online issue of the InteliHealth Health News comes the report on a study that shows that children's eating habits can start as early as age 2. The "Feeding Infants & Toddlers Study", commissioned by baby-food maker Gerber Products Company showed that, "By 24 months, patterns look startlingly similar to some of the problematic American dietary patterns." The article noted that recent research has found that roughly one in every five Americans is now considered obese, double the rate in the mid-1980s.

What are We Weighting for?

Obesity is an excess of body fat, and is one of the most common health problems in the United States. About one-fourth of all American adults are considered to be obese. Obesity is measured using a scale called a body mass index, or BMI. A BMI greater than 30 is classified as obese. Obesity doesn't affect only adults.
